Buddies build belonging

Buddy activities

When the second graders in Alexis Langer’s class entered Jillian Edwards’ fourth grade classroom, they were greeted with smiles and waves.

The two classes are buddies and over the year sweet friendships have developed between the older and younger students.

Buddy classes are one way that Seely Place Elementary fosters an inclusive and connected community where everyone belongs and thrives. Each of K–2 classes is paired with a class in grades 3 – 5. At least once a month, they enjoy activities together.

Today’s activity was a fun math game called Race to 100.

Students took turns rolling two dice, adding the numbers and coloring in the total on their game boards as they worked toward filling 100 squares.

The activity provided a great opportunity for students to practice addition while building connections across grade levels.
