Message From The Principal

Hello and welcome to the 2018-2019 parent Coffee Night at Seely Place. I am honored, proud and truly excited to stand here today as your interim principal for the school year. What a year I think it will be! Already I am blown away by the kindness of the students, the strength in teaching of the faculty and the staff, and the warmth that the school community has shown.

Back to school night is a bit of a strange event especially if it’s your first one. I remember my first open house event - I felt like I was still the kid and my parents should be sitting in the audience. So for just one moment I want us all to go there. I want us all to reflect on what it was like to be an elementary school student. For some of you it may have been fewer years than others but elementary school memories are often not the memories that come to the forefront as high school or college may. So close your eyes and remember three memories from elementary school. I’ll give you a moment. Just three memories.

You may remember teachers or friends. You may remember something traumatic that happened, perhaps it was on the playground or in the lunchroom. You may remember something funny or something scary. You may even remember a special event that changed the person you are. The more you reflect, the more you will remember what a time of growth elementary school was for you. The more you continue to bring up those memories, the more you will remember the happiness, or struggle, or whatever the case may be. But no matter what, you know that those feelings are so real. Now our kids today may have fancier devices than we did, but there are many things that they will experience as elementary school students that are very much the same as what we went through. They will have a first friend. A first fight. A favorite teacher. A favorite recess activity. And we, you and me and the faculty and staff, are fortunate to be able to share these experiences with them every step of the way. We are building students who are empathetic, mindful, caring and we are doing it together. Here’s to what is sure to be a wonderful 2018-2019 school year!

Sincerely,

Eve Feuerstein
